ABSTRACT

Nature inspired algorithms like genetic algorithm (GA), swarm intelligence-based algorithms, differential evolution, central force algorithm, wind driven optimization technique, etc., present efficient approaches for the optimization of practical engineering problems using the wisdom available in nature. A brief review of these algorithms, in the context of radar absorbing structures, is presented in this chapter. Amongst all of them, particle swarm optimization (PSO), a computationally brilliant swarm intelligence-based algorithm, has been used in this book for the optimization of multilayered RAS. The underlying physical interpretations, key parameters involved and the methodology for the application of PSO in engineering problems are also elaborately described in this chapter.
