ABSTRACT
The main door at the entrance of the HR department opened automatically because an image recognition system identified the candidate. The present generation is exposed to the conveniences of automation, whether it is for withdrawing money from the bank or finding the route through voice commands on a mobile phone. The main goal of building automation is to make buildings smart. The concept of intelligent buildings originated in the 1980s. It denoted buildings with sophisticated telecommunications, building management, and networked services. The goal of construction automation is to make the construction processes smart. Researchers have attempted to classify tasks into standard types depending on the kind of movements that are required. The need for automation in buildings and on construction sites is brought out in the chapter.
