Tension stiffening of concrete and embedded bar models

The phenomenon of concrete contributing to the tensile behavior of reinforced concrete elements is known as tension stiffening. Despite concrete's low tensile strength, its contribution, though small, should be considered in the study of deformations of structural concrete elements when the concrete strain in tension exceeds the strain corresponding to the tensile strength of the concrete (f_ct).
