ABSTRACT

Structures, machinery, vehicles, and many other load-carrying items typically include numerous connections of various parts. The design of those connections and the selection of appropriate fasteners are discussed in this chapter. Bolted connections and riveted joints are discussed. Examples of the stress analysis of connections are given to illustrate the application of controlling equations and material properties. A variety of arrangements of fasteners are shown in the chapter.

Welded joints are also discussed with examples of the geometry of the joined members and the properties of the welding electrodes for steel and aluminum are included. Allowable stresses are listed for examples of the application of bolted, riveted, and welded joints.
