ABSTRACT

The basic principles and the steps of surgery are primarily aimed at the safe removal of the gallbladder, with no complications and without injury to the bile duct. Use of proper instruments and the proper exposure of the gallbladder are the first step towards a safe surgery. Identification of anatomical landmarks, dissection of hepatocystic triangle and achieving ‘Critical View of Safety’ are the basic steps before cystic duct and artery are ligated. A few illustrative cases where CVS is achieved in the face of variable anatomy have been presented in this chapter.
