ABSTRACT
The number and course of the cystic artery can be variable. Injury to the cystic artery can result in significant bleeding, obscuring the vision and leading to conversion from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy in about 0.1% of cases. Careful dissection, identification and division of the artery is therefore an important step in performing a safe cholecystectomy.
