ABSTRACT

This chapter defines the client and how to manage the demands of the stakeholders involved. In addition, it provides guidance on how a client can meet sustainability and regenerative approaches and how to beneficially organise a construction project by client advisor or the core team. The following section discusses the importance of the client’s knowledge level concerning sustainability and regenerative issues. Further, it delineates the importance of considering what kind of management systems the client’s organisation is experiencing (e.g. quality, environmental) and/or how to manage ethical issues in such organisations. Specifically, from a sustainability point of view, environmental management systems such as the standardised ISO 14001 and ethical standards or checklists are significant. The chapter also discusses how to identify the most important stakeholders and what kind of necessary information and level of cooperation are needed for different stakeholders. It then outlines a way to transfer knowledge within and between the client and the different stakeholders through capacity building. Lastly, the chapter ends with guidance about financing a construction project aimed at minimising the impact on the planet and the conditions that must be met by different financial tools.
