ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the troubleshooting Case Studies in Equipment/Facility Operation. When the burner could not be lit up in the first attempt with the main burner, a good amount of fuel gas remained unburnt inside the furnace box, and thus without proper air purging out of these accumulated fuel gas, lighting up attempted led to an explosion. Flue gas excess air level was checked and found to be alright; furnace draft also was in line. Fuel oil line steam tracing was also in order and working. When combustion air temperature was increased to normal temperature after startup, the fire caught up; fire extinguished using a fire extinguisher, oil drained off from air duct and combustion air temperature reduced by 10°C.
