ABSTRACT

Trimethylbenzenepropanol is a colorless to pale yellow clear oily liquid; its odor type is floral and its odor at 100% is described as 'floral lily of the valley green tropical'. Trimethylbenzenepropanol is a synthetic chemical, not found in nature. The sensitizing potency of trimethylbenzenepropanol was classified as 'weak' based on an EC3 value of 30% in the local lymph node assay in animal experiments. However, testing with both 'normal' and purified trimethylbenzenepropanol resulted in comparable rates of positive patch tests and it was concluded that organochlorine impurities are very probably not the cause of allergic reactions to Majantol. Trimethylbenzenepropanol was stated to be the allergen in one patient in a group of 603 individuals suffering from cosmetic dermatitis, seen in the period 2010-2015 in Leuven, Belgium.
