ABSTRACT

Fisheries is an important economic activity and a flourishing sector in India with varied resources and potential, engaging over 16 million people at the primary level. Blue Revolution or the Neel Kranti Mission was started in 2015 for the duration of 5 years by Government of India. The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) was established in 2006 as an autonomous organization under the administrative control of the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, to enhance fish production and productivity in the country and to coordinate fishery development in an integrated and holistic manner. The potential for growth in fisheries sector is immense and the country is on the threshold of massive development in fisheries and aquaculture. The Mission Blue Revolution envisioned by the Government primarily focuses to enhance fish productivity, fish production at a growth rate of 6% to 8% and creation of need based infrastructure facilities for fisheries.
