ABSTRACT

Botanic Gardens are living repositories of plants with the purpose of conservation, research, display and education. According to Botanic Gardens Conservation International, around 6.13 million accessions representing more than 80,000 species are conserved in botanical gardens through living plants. In India, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah is the oldest known botanical garden and has a large collection of important plants from different parts of the world. International Association of Botanic Gardens was formally constituted during the eighth International Botanical Congress in the year 1954. The Royal Botanic Garden founded in 1816, is the oldest Botanical Garden of Australia. Missouri Botanical Garden established in 1859 in the city of St. Louis has nearly 51,000 plants in its live collections. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has many gardens within the main garden like the Cranford Rose Garden, Fragrance Garden and Rock Garden. The Singapore Botanic Garden was established in 1859 by Ari–Horticultural Society.
