ABSTRACT

Diastimeters are instruments used in direct measurement of distance and angle by taping. The survey of a polygon with a diastimeter can be done by measuring the alignments and angles using the cosine law, or measuring the perimeter lines and some internal lines forming geometric figures to make the map and determine the area of interest. As a computation practice, a polygon of area 10 meters by 10 meters is drawn, determine the angles of the vertices and the area of the polygon based on measurements made with a diastimeter inside this area. The angles are first determined in R and then checked by the cosine law. The polygonal area is calculated and checked by the semiperimeter method and the method of known angles. The geometry of the measured segments is mapped to visualize the results.
