ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an outline of the tests that may be applied to crude oil, heavy crude oil, extra heavy crude oil, tar sand bitumen, and residua as well as biomass and their respective products as a pointer to the chemical properties and physical properties from which a feedstock or product can be evaluated. For this purpose, data relating to various chemical-physical properties have been included as illustrative examples, but theoretical discussions of the physical properties of hydrocarbons were deemed irrelevant and are omitted.
