ABSTRACT

Solvent deasphalting processes are a major part of refinery operations because of the increased acceptance of the viscous feedstocks (heavy crude oil, extra heavy crude oil, and tar sand bitumen) as well as the changing composition of the more conventional refinery feedstocks that have increased amounts of atmospheric residua and vacuum residua.

This chapter presents descriptions of the various aspects of the deasphalting process, especially the type of feedstocks and feedstock properties that are essential to the efficient outcome of the process.
