ABSTRACT
Big data’s technological advancements and benefits have paved the way for massive amount of research work of its implementation in the oil and gas industry in the last few decades, but what needs to be seen is whether it was worth it or not. Thus, this chapter focuses on understanding the extent of real-world implementation of big data in the industry as a whole along with each specific operation. This is vital to the study of big data in petroleum industry as it also helps in understanding the current level of big data usefulness along with future potential of the same. This chapter will equip the reader with complete understanding of all aspects of O&G companies’ steps to integrate big data in terms of industry-wide and operation-specific big data implementation by enumerating several actual instances of application.
