ABSTRACT
Diving into the intricate aspects of big data in petroleum industry’s each segment and operation, the first concept (a set of aspects) to grasp is the 6Vs of big data in petroleum industry operations, namely, Geoscience, Exploration, Drilling, Reservoir Studies, Production, Transportation, Petroleum Refinery, Natural Gas, Health and Safety & Finance and Financial Markets. Moreover, in lieu of the industry’s transition into digitization (as mentioned in the first chapter), it is important to shed some light on the same. This is due to various factors including the benefits of using the humongous amount of data generated every single day for effective big data analytics. This chapter provides a brief explanation on the six aspects or 6Vs of petroleum operations with respect to big data’s implementation on the same. The chapter will equip the reader with comprehensive understanding of all Vs of specific operations along with their importance.
