ABSTRACT
After diving into different aspects or 6Vs of big data in petroleum industry’s each operation along with deeper dive into the benefits that implementation of big data can bring, this chapter focuses on understanding the scope of application of big data in the industry as a whole along with specific operations, namely, Geoscience, Exploration, Drilling, Reservoir Studies, Production, Transportation, Petroleum Refinery, Natural Gas, Health and Safety & Finance and Financial Markets. Moreover, in lieu of the industry’s transition into digitization alongside its widespread implementation, it is vital to shed some light on how big or wide is the application possibilities in the industry. This chapter provides a brief explanation of the possible applications of big data while providing the reason for each of them in petroleum operations with respect to real-world implementation. The chapter will equip the reader with comprehensive understanding of all spectrums of applications of both industry-wide and operation-specific big data implementation.
