ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the importance of using reactors in series for upgrading of heavy oil. Experimental results in a pilot plant for comparison of different reactor configurations with fixed-bed reactor (FBR) and ebullated-bed reactor (EBR) are discussed. The HIDRO-IMP-U for full upgrading of heavy oil, which uses two FBRs in series, is described. Finally, experimental results are commented in terms of changes of API gravity, impurities content, sediment formation, and residue conversion. Changes in some operational parameters are also discussed.
