ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview on manufacturing systems transition, highlighting the features of craft, mass, lean, agile, sustainable, and smart systems. The origin of lean manufacturing is presented with the definition and concepts of lean manufacturing. This is followed by a discussion on the comparison of mass and lean systems from several perspectives.
