ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview and discussion on five elements of lean manufacturing. The terms value stream and value flow are detailed. This is followed by a discussion on activity categorization and analysis of value stream. Then the concepts of push and pull production are briefed. This is followed by a discussion on the significance of stability, standardized work, and standard operating procedures for a lean system. Then the concepts of visual management and Single-Piece Flow (SPF) are presented.
