ABSTRACT

Range of success has been discussed in the beginning of this chapter. If the three basic features, viz., performance (specification), time and cost, are in line with the initial plan, the project is considered as successful. On the contrary, when the project is completed, but none of the three basic features are satisfied, the project is considered to have failed. If the project is terminated before completion date, the project is also deemed to have failed. The project is considered as partially successful when one or two out of the three basic features are met. The critical success factors during both pre-implementation and implementation stages are discussed next. The basic features of appraisal, its purposes and step-by-step process for carrying out the technique are deliberated. Various issues to which the alternative options of a project should be subjected to are also identified.
