ABSTRACT

The economic use electrical power is the focus of this chapter. It starts with the cash flow and payback period analyses in new projects with borrowed or self-financed funds, and continues with the power loss capitalization rate in generators and transformers, use of high effficiency motors, power factor improvement, energy storage for load leveling, variable speed drives for ac and dc motors, and regenerative braking to capture the kinetic energy of a moving car or train and storing it in a battery for later use.
