ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses various electrochemical batteries, such as lead-acid, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, and lithium ion. Their charge/discharge characteristics, charge efficiency, round trip energy efficiency, memory effect, effect of temperature and depth of discharge on the expected charge/discharge cycle life, the safety and environment, and the battery design process are covered.
