Chapter 2 focuses on you and the educational challenges you, your class, school, or college face. Whether your challenges are systemic, process-based, pedagogically focused, or something else entirely, we’ll use them to help you understand AI. We provide you with a set of questions to help identify your top challenges, and a scoring framework to help you decide which challenge to focus on first.

The key to making good decisions about how best to bring AI to bear is to understand what AI is particularly good at and where human expertise is still far, far better. It’s set against this context that we weigh in on one of education’s most headline-grabbing, algorithm-gone-wrong challenges: the UK’s GCSE and A-Level grading algorithm debacle of 2020. Finally, we help you make a start of getting to know your data, and we start to go more in-depth on the important issue of ethics.
