ABSTRACT

Now, this is where it gets interesting. In Chapter 5, we help you “get inside” an AI machine learning algorithm. We introduce you to some of the different types of machine learning and provide educational examples to help you learn what these algorithms can do and how they work. We step through the application of machine learning into an educational data set to illustrate what can be done and we provide illustrations of the workflows involved at each step. You won’t need programming or complicated mathematics to understand machine learning, or to appreciate how it could help you.

Instead, we use a cooking example to illustrate the need for collecting your ingredients (your data), cleaning them, organising them, and mixing them together in a particular way that will enable you to produce an analysis of your challenge(s) that will reveal previously unseen information that you can use to learn a great deal more about your challenge and how it might be addressed. You will also learn something about raspberry souffle (!) and the kind of AI that might become a key part of your future work.
