ABSTRACT

Invasive alien species are recognized as one of the drivers of global biodiversity change due to the adverse ecological and economical impacts they impose on the biodiversity of introduced environments. The term Invasive Alien Species is defined as non-indigenous (non-native or exotic) species of a plant, animal, or micro-organism, that have been deliberately or accidentally introduced to new areas beyond their native range and which then spread beyond human management impacting the biodiversity in the new environment. Invasive Alien Plant Species change ecosystem structure, ecological relationships between native species, and ecosystem function. Unwillingly a large proportion of them have become invasive especially when their establishment and spread is favored in the introduced environment. Invasive species tend to establish easily as natural enemies are unavailable immediately after their introduction into the new environment.
