ABSTRACT

Tech pubs in the noncommercial aviation world fall into two categories: General – for all aircraft types – and type model series – for a specific type. In this chapter, two numbering systems that are being used for tech pubs will be discussed. The TMINS assigns each technical manual a unique identifying alphanumeric designation patterned after the 13-digit National Stock Number (NSN); for example, A1-F18AA-NFM-500. It serves as the technical manual identification number. Additionally, TMINS contains a provision for adding a suffix to give the security classification and other information considered important.

According to Aviation Maintenance Ratings and Standard Technical Manual Identification Numbering System (TMINS) – released on May 14, 1980, and available in the public domain.

According to NA-00-25-100 (NAVAIR Technical Publications Library Management Program), there’s a conventional numbering system that consists of a prefix and a combination of numbers and letters divided into three parts and separated by dashes (NA-01-…) and TMINS (Technical Manual Identification and Numbering System) that is a numbering system developed in coordination with other systems commands. TMINS may be accessed on the world wide web.
