ABSTRACT

We humans can perform many unique things and meaning-producing is indeed one of our unique qualities. Ferdinand de Saussure (1857–1913) sees language as a system consisting of arbitrary signs, in which there is no direct link between the sign and the concept it evokes. The word “tree” does not look like a tree in my garden. Language is a system of differences.

Being innovative in communication would pay off if the language game was played masterfully.

Scientific and technical writings constantly refer the reader/user to things outside of themselves; therefore the link between the piece of writing and the actual world must be strong enough to create that bond for the reader/user.
