ABSTRACT

This chapter goes to the core of what art is and why it is so intrinsically linked with the sense of being a human. History is full of examples of us humans going to great lengths in our urge to express ourselves artistically, even to the point of risking our lives. Art has, over the different time epochs, been evolving where new ways of depicting the world and ourselves have taken alternate shapes and forms. These have often been articulated through art manifestos, a public declaration of the motifs and techniques that are applied and practiced to provoke a paradigm shift to re-focus on what it is that is important in the contemporary setting, not unusually including a political slant that seeks to change a culture or society that appears stagnated and obsolete.
