ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine a combination of two distinct materials (matrix and parallel fibers), with simple geometry and loading conditions. This in order to estimate the elastic and hygrothermal properties of the equivalent material, i.e. of the unidirectional composite layer. Successively, we examine the longitudinal modulus, the Poisson’s ratio, the transverse modulus, and the shear modulus. Next, we extend to thermoelastic properties and thermomechanical behavior of the unidirectional layer. Finally, we examine the hygroscopic effects when including the humidity influence and the corresponding expansion coefficient in order to lead to the hygrothermal behavior of the unidirectional layer.
