ABSTRACT
This is a general overview of what is meant by the term “composite material”. After having defined these materials, we briefly describe the fields in which they are of interest. These areas will be examined in more detail later in specific chapters. We give the physical properties of the different materials that go into the constitution of composites and briefly comment on the different areas of performance, which will also be examined in detail in the rest of the book.
