ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we consider the uniform torsion of composite beams made up of isotropic phases perfectly bonded. After establishing the homogenized constitutive equation and calculating the torsion shear stresses, we focus on the location of the torsion center in order to describe the bending-torsion coupling. Extrapolation to beams with transversely isotropic phases is straightforward. The case of orthotropic phases with a principal direction parallel to the axis of the beam, the other two principal directions variable in the plane of a cross section, does not present any fundamental difficulties.
