ABSTRACT

Using an original method based on the prior definition of equivalent displacement parameters, we look after in this chapter how transverse shear stresses can impact the mechanical behavior of the laminate. Plate configurations for which the influence of these stresses is significant are examined, particularly plates with high relative thicknesses, sandwich plates, and a case of quasi-orthotropic stratification built on a Double-Double sequence. This is because even for thin laminated plates, transverse shear stiffness can be important in dealing with buckling stability issues.
