ABSTRACT
It is essential for the designer to know precisely the geometric and mechanical characteristics of the reinforcement–matrix mixture, which is the basic structure of composite parts. Description of these characteristics is the subject of the chapter. Unidirectional fiber/matrix plies, woven or nonwoven plies, metal matrix composites, ceramic matrix composites, biocomposite materials, and nanocomposite materials are examined. The field of composite testing is vast and obeys many standards. Some examples are given for information.
