ABSTRACT

We saw in the previous chapter how to design the regular or smooth zone of a laminate in order to support the overall loads. Even more critical for the designer of a composite part is the careful design of the attachments and joints of the parts between them. We are interested here in assembly solutions. We examine riveting, bolting, and bonding of a composite part with another (composite or metal). We study the design and sizing of riveted and bolted joints as well as the design of bonded solutions and the sizing of bonding surfaces.
