ABSTRACT

Using composite components allows a significant reduction in weight in aircraft. Specific aspects are discussed in this chapter for large civil transport, regional, business, light, and combat aircraft. We deal then with composite areas in helicopters and design of blades and rotor hubs. Aircraft propellers and developments in the use of ceramic matrix composites in aircraft jet engines are then examined. Space applications relate to satellites, propellant tanks and pressure vessels, nozzles, and other specific composite components.
