ABSTRACT

In sport, artificial intelligence (AI) can not only benefit elite athletes where the availability of cheaper technologies can help with the automation of player scouting at the elite level, for example, but that same technology can also benefit players from lower leagues or regions/countries. More data will help to democratize the quality of training feedback available for athletes in all locations, globally. The future will also see even greater interaction with fans, the public and content consumers in general. The ability to broadcast live and distribute content on demand via OTT platforms will continue to grow and enable fans to stay engaged and the fan base to remain intact. Gambling is an integral part of the sporting industry. Speaking of the role of AI in gambling leads neatly to a topic that is fraught with danger, but which cannot be avoided – that of the ethical challenges to the increasing place of AI within sport and within society in general.
