ABSTRACT
Some adults look back on high school as the best years of their lives. Teachers can either be rays of sunshine cutting through the darkness, or thunderheads. There were lots of computer labs at MIT, but most of them were encrusted with rules. The principal of the school was a businessman by training, not an educator. That sounds terrible, but it was actually great, because his strategy was to hire good people and then let them do what they wanted. The Massachusetts legislature had just passed a law allowing school boards to issue bonds specifically for computer equipment, and the principal talked the board into using that power. There have been about a bazillion books to introduce young kids to Logo, but from the beginning people at the MIT Logo Lab were saying that someone needed to write a more advanced book, because the people knew that they could do much more with Logo than most people were doing.
