ABSTRACT

Precision Farming (PF) is a holistic farm management approach which allows farmers to adjust inputs use and cultivation practices including variety selection, seed, sowing/planting, fertilizers, pesticides and irrigation water, tillage, harvesting harmonizing to varying soil texture, fertility and other field characteristics. Precision farming differs from conventional farming which is mostly based on uniform applications and treatments all across a field, while PF involves mapping and analysis of field variability which links spatial relationships to management tasks, thus permitting farmers to view and manage their farms, crops and practices with a new perspective. Precision farming includes a variety of tools of hardware, software and equipments like Global Positioning System (GPS), Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), Geographic information systems (GIS), Remote sensing, Sensors, Variable Rate Applicator, yield mapping technology/yield monitors, Computer system etc. for variability assessment and its management in the field.
