ABSTRACT

Soil-less culture is defined as the method of cultivating crops without using soil as a rooting medium, in which nutrients to growing crop are supplied through the irrigation water. The fertilizers containing nutrients are dissolved in water at an appropriate concentration to formulate a solution called nutrient solution, which is supplied to maintain proper health of the crop grown in the system. Soil-less cultures usually have higher yields than soil culture systems. An optimum quality of growing substrate is one of the most important components involved in successful production, because it directly affects the availability of water and nutrients to the plant. Float hydroponics may accommodate a single tank or multiple tank system in greenhouses. Water channels for the system can be made up of plastic material such as polyethylene liner, polyvinylchloride (PVC) and polypropylene with a rectangle or triangle shaped section. Nutrient delivery in the system could be continuous during 24 hour cycle or mabe be intermittent.
