ABSTRACT

The numerous agricultural systems that still exist can be included in traditional agriculture since they are not static and are adjusted, abandoned, changed, reproduced, and reorganized over time according to the period, and the places where they are located, the human populations practicing them, and some of the external forces they can confront. Traditional agriculture in Mexico still requires studies and programs that are focused on developing improvements for the food system and health of small-scale farmers’ families and their food system, including industrial food products. The study of rural societies has generated a series of functions, interactions, and interrelations among the different components that explain the current situation in the different regions of the country. The interrelationship between available water and agricultural systems has been a controversial issue that encompasses water history and human uses.
