ABSTRACT

Data for the past decade are summarized in Table 13.1. All reports were from one-humped camel (Camelus dromedarius) except the report from China 1288 from the 2-humped camel (Camelus bactrianus). Additionally, infections were detected in camels from zoos. Antibodies were found in 2 of 5 C. dromedarius, 853 2 of 9 C. bactrianus, 853 and 1 of 9 C. bactrianus 101 in zoos in Czech Republic; prevalences varied greatly, depending on the serological tests, cut-off values, management, function, and geography (Table 13.1). Prevalence increased with age. 206 , 483 , 558 , 560 This was dramatically evidenced by zero prevalence in 17 camels less than 5-year-old, versus 1.4% in 71, 6–25-year-old, and 6.1% in camels older than 25 years. 1288 In the same report, prevalence was 0.9% of 102 camels used for transportation versus 10.5% in 19 camels used for agriculture. 1288
