ABSTRACT

Seroprevalence varied with the geographic location of sampling. The role of different rodent species in the epidemiology of T. gondii infection may differ geographically. Rats do not appear to play an important role in the epidemiology of T. gondii infection in several countries including Brazil and Grenada, West Indies, and Niger in Africa because of low prevalence. A study discussed findings of seropositivity or lack of it in rats captured at the same place and at the same time, and possible postnatal/congenital transmission of T. gondii. A survey from France found a positive correlation between seropositivity and body mass of rats, suggesting postnatal transmission of T. gondii. In an epidemiological investigation, Mus musculus were trapped in different locations in Senegal, and data assessed with respect to the genetics of the mouse and T. gondii isolates.
