ABSTRACT

Warehousing and storage of fertilizers is a very important and massive activity. Chemical fertilizers are becoming increasingly expensive day by day due to hike of prices of petroleum, inflation etc., which tempts dealers to adopt malpractices for earning more profits through adulteration, supplies of underweight materials or blending of degraded fertilizers etc. To control the trade, price, quality of fertilizers and their distribution, “The fertilizers (Control) Order” (FCO) came in to force in 1957. The FCO keeps a strict watch on quality control of fertilizers, provides for the registration of dealers and statutory control of fertilizer prices by Government. The Fertilizer Movement Order (FMO) was promulgated by Government of India in April 1973 to ensure an equitable distribution of fertilizers in various States. According to the fertilizer movement order, no person or agency can export chemical fertilizers from any State.
