ABSTRACT

Solvers for initial and boundary value problems (IVP&BVP) of the ordinary differential equation (ODE) are represented in the chapter. The steps for solving the IVP and BVP using the ode- and bvp-solvers are described. The solutions are presented through real examples. In the final part, the studied ode- and bvp-solver commands are applied to solve some engineering problems. These include IVP ODE solutions for undamped forced oscillations of the spring, for series RLC circuit current, and for military model relative strengths;BVP ODE solutions for undamped oscillations of a spring-mass system, for temperature distribution in the wire heater, and for a uniformly loaded beam hinged at both ends and with an external moment applied to end of the beam.
