ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the PDE Modeler interface and walks you through the step-by-step solution of two-dimensional partial differential equations (PDE). It is shown how to solve elliptic, parabolic, hyperbolic, and eigenvalue PDEs in PDE Modeler with some boundary and initial conditions. Solutions to some applied engineering problems were discussed. The use of PDE Modeler is demonstrated with examples of solutions: Reynolds equation for hydrodynamic lubrication of surfaces with hemi-spherical pores, transient thermal conduction equation with temperature-dependent material properties, stress distribution in a rectangular plate with a hole, and eigenvalue equation for the T-shaped membrane.
