ABSTRACT

Investigation of disease problem whether involving a single animal or a group the first and most important part is to carry out an accurate clinical examination. The major aspects include which physical examination of the animal, the history, and the environment. In recent years there has been an enormous increase in the number of laboratory techniques for quick diagnosis of animal diseases and every veterinary clinician should be capable of making use of it. Veterinarian should also be able to choose and select suitable material submitted to laboratory for examination. Thus blood smears, blood, blood serum, pus, sputum, discharge, exudate, urine, milk and so on should be collected when there is every likelihood of the etiological agent being present, whose isolation and identification is to be made or when antibodies are at peak and sero-diagnosis is to be undertaken. The veterinarians should be well conversant with common laboratory techniques involved in the diagnosis of infectious diseases.
