ABSTRACT

Traditional Chinese medicine has accumulated treatment experience of headaches for thousands of years. The Essence and the Marrow ascend and gather in the head. The Essence is generated by Zang Fu, and the marrow is derived from the Kidney Essence and Spleen food nutrients. The headache in the occiput, forehead, temporal, and the vertex is called the Six Meridian Headache. The headache is commonly caused by the disorders of Spleen and Stomach. In western medicine, the gastrointestinal disorder is part of the Spleen and Stomach system dysfunction. Dysfunction of the Spleen and Stomach can also be due to long-term alcohol consumption and excessively rich diets with fatty food, sweet food, and strong-tasting food. Headache is also a symptom of sunstroke. The branch stemming from the lumbar region runs downward parallel to the spine.
