ABSTRACT

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes wrist pain, numbness, and tingling in the forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers. The carpal tunnel is a canal in the volar wrist. The boundaries are the carpal bones forming the floor, and the roof is the transverse carpal ligament. The tendons comprise one flexor pollicis longus, four flexor digitorum superficialis, and four flexor digitorum profundus. The hook of the hamate and the pisiform form the boundaries medially, while the scaphoid and trapezium tubercles form the boundaries laterally. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve. Anything that irritates the median nerve in the carpal tunnel may lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. Tingling, numbness, or an electric shock in the thumb, index, middle fingers, and the radial half of the ring finger. Cervical radiculopathy is the most common disorder that mimics carpal tunnel syndrome.
