ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the properties of seawater and sea sand and their influences on hydration, microstructure, and fresh and hardened properties of ultra-high-performance seawater sea-sand concrete (UHPSSC). The salinity and chemical compositions of seawater are summarized, and their influences on properties of UHPSSC are revealed. The influences of sea sand from different sea areas are also discussed. The effects of cement type, supplementary cementitious materials type, and curing condition on the properties of UHPSSC are described. This chapter summarizes the recent advances in UHPSCC, which aims at promoting its potential applications in the marine environment to relieve the shortages of fresh water and river/manufactured sand for onsite preparation.
